TutorLingua takes zero commission on your lessons. Every penny your students pay goes to you (minus standard Stripe processing fees). No hidden charges, no percentage cuts, no surprises.

Setting Up Stripe Connect

Stripe Connect is the fastest way to start accepting card payments. Here's how to set it up:

Step 1: Start the Connection

1. Go to Settings > Payments
2. Click Connect with Stripe
3. You'll be redirected to Stripe's secure onboarding

Step 2: Enter Your Details

Stripe will ask for:

• Personal information — Your legal name and date of birth
• Address — Your current home address
• Identity verification — A government-issued ID (passport, driving licence)
• Bank account — Where you want to receive payouts

All information goes directly to Stripe. TutorLingua never sees or stores your bank details.

Step 3: Verification

Stripe typically verifies your account within 1–2 business days. You'll receive an email when you're approved.

Step 4: You're Live

Once verified, your settings will show "Stripe Connected" with a green badge. Students can now pay by card when booking your lessons.

Payout Schedule

Stripe sends payouts to your bank account on a rolling basis:

Payouts are automatic — you don't need to request them. Check your Stripe Dashboard for detailed payout tracking.

Understanding Fees

Stripe charges standard processing fees:

• UK cards: 1.4% + 20p per transaction
• EU cards: 2.5% + 20p per transaction
• International cards: 2.9% + 20p per transaction

Example

For a £30 lesson paid by UK card:

• Stripe fee: ~£0.62
• TutorLingua fee: £0.00
• You receive: ~£29.38

Manual Payments

If you prefer, you can accept payments outside of Stripe:

1. Go to Settings > Payments
2. Toggle on your preferred methods:
   • Venmo
   • PayPal
   • Zelle
   • Bank transfer
3. Enter your payment details
4. Save

Students will see your payment instructions at checkout and pay you directly. You'll need to mark bookings as "Paid" manually in your dashboard.

Invoicing

Need to send invoices? TutorLingua generates simple invoices for completed lessons:

1. Go to Dashboard > Bookings
2. Find the completed booking
3. Click Generate Invoice
4. Download or send directly to the student

Invoices include your details, the student's details, service description, and amount paid.

Combining Payment Methods

You can offer both Stripe and manual payments simultaneously. Students choose their preferred option at checkout. This is useful for:

• Reaching students without credit cards
• Working with students in regions where Stripe isn't available
• Offering flexibility to existing students

Tax Considerations

TutorLingua doesn't handle tax collection or reporting — you're responsible for your own tax obligations. Keep records of all payments (Stripe provides detailed reports) and consult a tax professional if needed.
